National Day Holiday

I was in the school at about 6:15am and it was early in morning, warming up and practicing some of the pieces before going to Tech Ghee Primary School where the National Day Observance is being held.

We played a few pieces such as The Soldier Song, The Colours of The Wind, The Olympic Fanfare (specially played for the Prime Minister), The Shriek Dance Party and lastly Tequila. The students, members and the parents were impressed and admired with our music even including our Principal, Vice-Principal and Teachers too.

The whole event ended at 11:00am and everyone went back to have deep sleep. The event was so good that there were positive opinions from the people. Overall, it marked an unforgettable day in my life.

National Day Celebration / Green Carnival Day (actual day of jumble sale)

On the eve of the National Day. Our school celebrates the National Day and Green Carnival Day which is our class’ jumble sale’s day. Our school band played tremendously with the help of our conductor Mr. Adrian Chiang. The two pieces that we played were “Pomp and Circumstance” and “National Anthem”. This is to celebrate Nation’s Birthday and to mark Singapore’s 42 years of independence.

Later of the day, the Green Carnival was officially opened and our class’ jumble sale was on. Some of the students came to our booth to buy the products. This went on until every items were sold.

The most interesting part of this event was the money matter. The money that we received was more than what we had targeted. And, we were very happy with the result and in the end, it was indeed a very good learning journey for all of us.

My class's preparation for jumble sale

I was excited to see my class being chosen to take part in jumble sale. And, I was very happy to see that I was being nominated to be the Logistic of my group. My group leader is Ho Zheng Feng and my members are my whole class.

The preparation went smoothly as we were planning. And, we used PowerPoint Presentation to present it to our Principal and Vice-Principal so that they can understand how our progress for the jumble sale goes on.

While the preparation goes on, the interesting part of this event is advertisement. Advertisement meant by advertising to the whole school about our class’ jumble sale.

Overall, I felt that the preparation for the jumble sale was good as we put our full commitment to it. And, I wished my class to continue this commitment even to the end.

Happenings of My Life (Part 4)

My life during this June Holiday was getting busy and busy as I was attending extra classes and activities.

On 21st of June, our school celebrates Chong Boon Ideas Day. I and some of my fellow councilors were involved to usher the Guests, Parents and alumni to certain sessions and stages. This celebration starts at 8am and ends at 1pm.

But unfortunately, I could not stay any longer as I had to go for my band practice which is on the same day. The band practice starts at 9am and ends at 1pm. But I stay long enough for myself to have extra practice and do homework too.

During the band practice, our band instructor Mr. Adrian Chong conducts us four band pieaces which is “The Colours of the Wind″, “The Soldier Song”, “Shriek Dance Party” and “Tequila”. We took this practice seriously as we are going to perform at Bishan Park for “The Very Special Walk” which is on 14th of July.

I had two most interesting pieces out of four which is “The Colours of the Wind” and “Shriek Dance Party”. The reason why I chose this two pieces is because for Shriek Dance Party, the music is like a rock music and for the Colours of the Wind, the music is unique, nice, lovable and untouchable and also come up with melodies.

But in the other hand, these two pieces is the most difficult among the four pieces, because there are a lot of notes needs to be played and remembered. But overall, all the four pieces are nice to heard.

Happenings of My Life (Part 3)

I was getting busy and busy with my school activities as we (the Secondary 3 level) were preparing for the camp which is for the councilors. This camp is a 3 Days 2 Nights which is from 11th of June to 13th of June.

But on the first day, the actual reporting time for the camp was 7.30am but I was late by 15 minutes as I was not feeling well and the weather was bad too. The camp was going well as there were many activities and games before the course starts which is The World Café Tour Program and the Open Space Technology.

The World Café Tour program is about a group discussion from various chapters such as Peer Pressure. And to recognized the problem faced by the students today and know how to solve by using brainstorming questions.

The Open Space Technology is about learning the leadership course given by the company which is Trybe. I was familiar with this course as I had gone through this course during last year’s camp but the name was Thumbs Up. The most interesting section in this session was the word called DISC which D stands for Direct, I stands for Interactive, S stands for Stable and C stands for caring.

After having gone through all this course, we were preparing for the campfire which is tomorrow’s night. Then later, we had dinner. But after dinner. There was a night hike at Changi Beach which started at 8pm and ended at 11.00pm. It was not so scary as there some dangerous zone being eliminated.

On the second day, we had our morning preparation. Later in morning there was an NE Excursion to Singapore river to find out the history, the uniqueness of the places. There were many buildings which we got to see such as Old Immigration Office and Supreme Court.

Due to heavy downpour, we got to stop ourselves moving and quickly get into the bus. And there was no campfire but we (the leaders) had decided to put a night walk in our school. It was a successful ending for most of the students but not everyone as there were tears from the eyes.

On the third day, there was another NE Excursion to Camelot which is located at Changi for the High Elements such as Abseiling (downwards) and Rock Climbing. Mostly all of them had finished the challenge towards the obstacles and I was proud as I had finished the challenge too.

Overall, the camp was reall very nice, fun, exciting and challengeable as I could see every student’s face. And it was a good experience forus because we also learnt how to lead the camp.

Happenings of my life ( Part 2 )

My life during this June holiday was quite boring as I had nothing to do at home except doing homework and practicing band music. But sometimes, I felt it was fun as I make myself coming to school regularly for some meetings and activities.

The meetings that I usually attend in school is for the Student Councillor as we are preparing for the camp which is from Eleventh of June to Thirteenth of June. I wish this camp must be beneficial and useful to all student councillors as we ( the Secondary Three Badge ) lead this camp.

The reason for this camp is to define the aims, vision and roles of Student Council from perspective of the students, to build comradeship, to build teamwork, to build confidence in self and trust in comrades and lastly, to launch student NE Ambassadors. Not only that, to build relationship and to create bond among each and every councilors which will last long.

As we had finished discussing about this camp, it took about three to five hours as our main aim is to plan properly and to make this camp a meaningful camp which cannot be forget easily.

I was very excited and eager to know how the camp goes on well. But this year’s camp will be different from last year’s camp as there will be many exciting activities and fieldtrips going to come. I believe that it will be a good experience for all councilors. And I hope that this experience will lead everyone to the end.
